Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar and may differ by a day by country, depending on the moon sighting.
How the Hijri calendar works
The Hijri calendar follows the moon: each month has 29 or 30 days and a year lasts about 354 days. That is why Ramadan and Eid move about 11 days earlier every Gregorian year.
Years are counted from the Hijra, the Prophet’s migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622. Umm al-Qura is Saudi Arabia’s official calculated calendar; many countries instead start months by sighting the new moon, so their dates can differ by a day.
